Aubrey Gomme was born at Coldharbour Farm, Ilmer, on 20 August 1892, the son of George and Hannah Gomme. Aubrey was a farmer who had emigrated to Canada early in 1911. He joined the Canadian Infantry, serving as a private in the 21st Battalion of the East Ontario Regiment; the Battalion arrived in England in May 1916. Aubrey was killed in action on 9 April 1917 during the attack at Vimy Ridge. He was 24 years old and is buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais.

William Claydon was born at Bledlow Ridge in 1897. He was the son of William and Sarah Claydon of Ilmer, his father William worked as a horseman. William joined the Oxford and Bucks Light infantry and was killed in action on 28 April 1917. He was 19 years old and has no known grave. Williamʼs name appears on the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais.

Frank Kingham, born on 25 July 1896, was the son of Fritz and Sarah Kingham who lived at Lower Farm Cottage in 1911 and at the Old Vicarage at the time of his death. Frank served with the Gloucestershire Regiment and died of his wounds on 27 August 1917, at the age of 21 years; he is buried in the New Irish Farm Cemetery at Ypres.

Albert Richardson was born in 1895, the son of Alfred and Alice Richardson. Both father and son worked as farm labourers at Manor Farm, Ilmer, for Alfred Hill. Albert served as a Corporal in the 13th Kings Royal Rifles Corps and died of his wounds in 11 September 1918 at the age of 23 years. Albert Richardson was a bell ringer and active church worker and a special memorial service was held for him at Ilmer Church. He is buried at Ruyaulcourt Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais.
